Ben is a Pittsburgh-based artist, who paints in a non-objective styling, often times meshing in realism figures, using epoxy resin for each piece.
At an early age Ben fell in love with sketching abstract lines and shapes. Over time Ben felt a pressure to “find a style.” Being consistent in art is a way for an artist to be known for something, or be identifiable. Over 15 years this process finally came to fruition. Ben always wanted to create pieces that couldn’t be replicated. Something about finding that “secret recipe” over time has finally morphed into what you see from him in his current works. This turned into a multi-layer process: first creating texture, second creating non-objective styling and or a realistic element, and finally applying the signature resin.
In college Ben discovered many ways to create texture in his pieces. This is where the non-objective side to Ben’s work comes in. When someone would want a custom commission, Ben would abandon his texture and style and simply paint what they wanted. It wasn’t until the summer of 2017 when creating a custom piece. Instead of starting from scratch Ben picked up an already completed piece and painted the figure on top. The idea of starting with a piece that was already polished and starting there is where lies the style Ben had been searching for many years. Not feeling as though something is missing anymore.
After 3 successful solo shows Ben has raised money for education, and autism. His work now appears in many places over Pittsburgh, but has now stretched to over 30 states.
